What important character traits would you impart into your children if you could? There are so many I desire for our boys to walk out and display in their lives. It just seems when you’re trying to teach them to your children it can be futile at times. Society expects so little from the children and the culture goes against Biblical character we seek to teach.
But if we don’t train and teach them, who will?
We all know that children don’t come out telling the truth when they’re caught doing wrong or having a desire to share their toys. We have to character train our children each day, multiple times a day. We can’t believe that they’ll grow out of lying, selfishness, or being unkind. We help them start on a road to character training that they’ll continue until they leave this earth.
If we don’t start when they’re small and at home, we only put them on a path of more hardships than we’ll want to see unfold in their lives. They’re intelligent and they can learn to start being thankful, caring, honest, and loving at a young age. Children will act how we allow them to act. If you’re not pleased with the character they’re starting out with, it’s up to you to show them a different way to act.
Our children will one day grow up and have to live in society. Just remember the traits we teach to them will carry them into adulthood and impact generations to come.
Father, thank You for our children. Raising and training children is not easy. It’s one of the hardest tasks we’ll ever do. Give us wisdom to teach them character that pleases You. Strengthen us to put our hands to the plow and sow good seed into the hearts of our children. Help us to see our children the way You see them. They are a treasure and You have plans for each one of our children. We desire children that will grow into adults of integrity so guide us in our teaching and training. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
