Word-Filled Wednesday- He Is Our Portion

We’ve all felt how David did in Psalm 73. He was upset and discouraged because the evil ones were prospering. He vented and cried out to God about his frustrations. He ends the psalm by declaring God is his portion and strength forever.

When it appears that the wicked are prospering and we’re sinking fast, we have to remember what David did.

God is…

our portion,

our inheritance,

our rock.

Our hearts will fail us. We will wander and wonder why we struggle though we’re doing what the Father commands. When that begins to happen, it’s time for some soul searching and encouragement. We have to remind ourselves that God is our inheritance and portion, not what He does for us.

He alone satisfies our longings, not the things we long for.

We may see the wicked prosper for now, but they’re laying up treasures on earth. We’re laying up treasures in eternity. When our hearts and minds begin to wander and wonder, we can go to His word for a reminder. Our portion will last long after what the world offers.

He is our eternal portion.

Father, thank You for being our Rock, the strong One. Our hearts will wander, but remind us that You are all we need. The things we long for our dust compared to You. You are the reward, the inheritance for us. Help us to focus our eyes on You as You steady us. Help us not to worry about the wicked, but to do what You’ve commanded no matter what. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever.

Psalm 73:25-26
